· work more effectively with others in your environment
· identify processes that work to move your organization forward
· understand and use the technology that can move you and your organization to the front
1. You Will Learn About People, Yourself and Others
Leadership is the art of working effectively with other people to engage them in your vision. Working effectively requires that you know how to use your abilities to accomplish a goal, and you know how to negotiate with others with different abilities and modes of operating in the work environment.
Men and women are different, and a man’s culture differs from a woman’s. As obvious a statement as that may seem, we haven’t always acted as if we knew and understood it.
We know it’s true, though, and that’s why we offer women’s leadership coaching, a program directed specifically to you. We identify your strengths, help you identify and get past barriers to your growth, encourage and challenge you to stretch, and teach you skills that use your own unique leadership qualities as a woman, taking into account your values, goals, perspectives, skills and specific challenges.
You can learn to understand male-based cultures and key into gender-based behaviors. This is an important skill, and that’s evident in the results of a study from the Colorado Women’s College at the University of Denver, which found women hold less than 20% of the leadership positions across a wide spectrum of commercial and not-for-profit enterprises, and they earn less than men.
To change those statistics, you need to know about more than yourself. You also need to understand how men operate in their work environment and how you can navigate effectively through that world, speaking with authority and credibility.
2. You Will Learn How to Identify Effective and Ineffective Processes and Sponsor Change and Growth
In addition to understanding and knowing how to work with different people, good leadership involves ensuring effective, growth-oriented processes.
- A process might be mechanical, that is, directed toward running the organization, creating something or making something happen, or ensuring that products are error free.
- Another kind of process comes under the heading, “human resources.” Leaders need to know how to maximize the abilities of those they lead and help teams work effectively together.
- An ineffective conflict resolution process limits organizational growth, but an effective process generates growth and creativity. Discover how to “transform to transcend.”
- Both mechanical and human resources processes are intimately linked to the culture of the organization. Learn to identify what works and what doesn’t to maintain organizational identity and foster growth.
3. You Will Learn How Technology Can Work for You
It’s hard to imagine an organization moving to the forefront today without a strong technological backbone. Technology provides us with information and feedback we need to start a business, monitor it and evaluate progress. It is essential for carrying out the work of most businesses and organizations, and it is the work of many other organizations.
To be an effective leader, you must have a basic understanding of technology and a specific understanding of the technology that is at the core of your organization.
Most important, you will learn how to harness the technological environment of your organization to work for you in accomplishing organizational goals.
Understanding Yourself and Your Environment Will Help You Avoid Costly Mistakes
