Getting in the zone starts with a thought. When I wake in the morning I have a routine that places me in a positive mindset for the day. I’m trying to get in a state of
flow or in a zone that will carry me through the day. Due to the way our minds operate, we can’t be in the zone all of the time. Nevertheless, there are times when we are in the zone and we are flowing effortlessly through a specific activity. When we are in the zone its like a composite of all our senses concentrated with laser beam focus that enables us to perform at a high level during a specific activity. The more we practice or obtain experience in the specific activity the greater the chance of experiencing “in the zone” performance. In 1992 Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls made six 3-point baskets in the second half of the NBA Finals against the Portland Trail Blazers. He was completely in the zone. Mike stated in his post game interview that “the three-point shot felt like a free throw”. On that day, no matter what he threw up, it was going in the basket because he was in the zone. We can be in a zone while we are playing sports, an instrument or doing our jobs. We need to be aware of when we perform best. Some of us are early risers, others are night owls, the point is that you need to know your best time of the day, your most comfortable seat and the ambience you need to help you get into your zone. You’ll be more productive and amazed with the results. However, you must be in tune with yourself and recognize the simple things that will assist you in achieving a higher level of performance.
Can you remember the last time you were in the zone?
Did you lose track of time? Did the day fly by and you completed a ton of work? If so, hopefully you now have some additional ideas to get you in the zone more often.
Everything starts with a thought and ultimately its up to us to find a way to get into the zone to take our game to the next level.
Hey Rod,
Right on point.
Ken
Thanks Ken. I’m trying to be in the zone as much as possible.
