PPP_INATU_CLP_hand_plant_AMany companies have an exercise or an event to discuss and share the mission statement and company values. Unfortunately, some of these events kick off with great hype but are only effective for a few months. How do we maintain the momentum?

The human resources department is extremely important to a company because they keep the fly-wheel moving in terms of company culture. Once the beliefs, behaviors and values have been shared, HR will create the on-boarding process. The marketeers will post placards, distribute mugs, and hang banners within the office space to reflect the culture. While all of the external reminders are great, they are still are not enough. If we are not intentional about cultivating the culture we may end up with a bad harvest.

Senior management must:

  1. Create the culture
  2. Live the culture
  3. Cultivate the culture
  4. Measure the culture

How much effort and energy will it take to cultivate the culture? Is the ROI (Return on Investment) worth the time and $$$?

“As the soil, however rich it may be, cannot be productive without cultivation, so the mind without culture can never produce good fruit.”
