Who do you turn to for wise counsel? All leaders need a wisdom group. A NASCAR driver has a pit crew, a company has a board of directors and the president has his advisors. A wisdom group is simply a group of people who you trust to add value to your life. These are special people in your life that have a heart to help you reach your full potential. Some people in your group may have more degrees than a thermometer, and some may have a few tee shirts that state “
Been There, Done That, Got the Tee Shirt!“. Others may have the ability to draw out the best answers that work specifically for you that lie within you. Depending on what stage you are in regarding your life journey, your wisdom group may range from three people to ten people. This group should consist of people from all walks of life because we need to exercise wisdom in every facet of our lives. The key point is to have a diverse group of people who will provide depth in their respective areas of expertise.
Now, give the following questions some serious thought and record the answers for future reference. Why do we depend on our own strength and knowledge to address challenges in our lives by ourselves? Do we still find great satisfaction in saying, “I did this by myself” when things go terrible wrong?
“I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day.” – Abraham Lincoln
